Curiouser Clay is proud to be an artist in residence at Soaring Arts Studio in Napoleon, Ohio, this fall as they open their new ceramic studio!
Soaring Arts is an inclusive art studio in Napoleon, Ohio, where artists with intellectual and developmental disabilities build creative practices, relationships, and meaningful roles within their community. We are spending ten weeks experimenting in the studio, working alongside artists and staff while learning about how belonging, creativity, choice, and participation are cultivated in everyday studio life.
Pitch Haus: A Seat at the Table
January- June 2026
Pitch Haus was a six-month community art project bringing together more than 100 artists from across the greater Chelsea, Michigan community, including Chelsea High School, Silver Maples, St. Louis Center, Soaring Arts Studio, and Studio Be. The project culminated in a two-week pop-up installation, A Seat at the Table, inside a shipping container. The exhibit featured collaborative artwork, community events, and opportunities to make and gather together. Pitch Haus was supported by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation as part of a grant initiative inviting four Michigan communities to activate the traveling container through locally designed creative projects.
1000 Flowers Could Bloom
January -May 2025, Chelsea, MI
1000 Flowers Could Bloom was a community art project that brought together more than 80 artists—including students, community members, healthcare partners, and artists with disabilities—to create ceramic flowers reflecting identity, hope, growth, and belonging. Led in partnership with Michigan Medicine’s Gifts of Art program, the project connected people and organizations through a shared creative goal, with each flower becoming part of something larger than itself. The completed works were featured in public installations at the Chelsea District Library Reading Garden and Michigan Medicine’s Taubman Center.
Pathway to Renewal
February- July 2025, Chelsea, MI
Pathway to Renewal was a community art project that invited Chelsea-area residents to create ceramic tiles exploring themes of hope, healing, and renewal as part of the restoration of a beloved mosaic originally created at TimberTown Park in 2003. Through a series of community workshops, participants contributed individual pieces that were brought together in new public artworks honoring both the history of the original mosaic and the community that has grown around it. The completed work was installed at TimberTown Park, creating a renewed space for reflection, connection, and belonging.
Gift of Art Exhibit
December- February 2025 University of Michigan Taubman Hospital, Ann Arbor, MI
1000 Flowers Could Bloom was a mixed-media exhibition presented by Michigan Medicine’s Gifts of Art program featuring work by artists from Moxie Works, an assisted arts program led by teaching artist Eli Zemper at St. Louis Center, a residential community for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Chelsea, Michigan. The exhibition celebrated the individual voices, creative choices, and artistic practices of participating artists, bringing their work into a public healthcare setting and inviting a broader audience to encounter disability arts through the work itself.
